Famous TV reality star Shauwn “Mam’Mkhize” Mkhize is officially single after a lengthy six-year divorce battle with her estranged husband, businessman Sbu Mpisane. The Durban High Court finalised their divorce on Monday, 18 November, ending a legal struggle that began when Mam’Mkhize filed for divorce in October 2018.
The couple, who had been together for 26 years and are well-known figures in Durban, share a 23-year-old son, Andile Mpisane, the chairman and player of Royal AM FC, a Betway Premiership soccer team.
During the divorce proceedings, Mam’Mkhize’s publicist, Nikiwe Nyembe, confirmed that Mam’Mkhize would not be commenting on the matter. Sbu Mpisane, meanwhile, told Daily Sun that his estranged wife was the one to initiate the divorce and had the details about filing in 2018. He also stated, “I will not be divulging what the judge decided should happen after a divorce decree was granted,” due to South Africa’s Divorce Act of 1979, which prohibits the publication of certain details during divorce proceedings.
According to Daily Sun, reports suggest that Mpisane had sought a 50% share of the couple’s multimillion-rand estate, which includes a mansion in La Lucia, Durban. The couple had split the property during their separation, with Mam’Mkhize living in the northern part and Mpisane in the southern part. What will happen to the estate now that the divorce is finalised remains unclear.
Mam’Mkhize had already reverted to her maiden name, Mkhize, even before the divorce decree was issued. In 2023, there was a reported break-in at the mansion, with three suspects attempting to enter Mpisane’s side of the house, but they fled when confronted.
Throughout their marriage, Mam’Mkhize and Mpisane were business partners, founding the PSL team Royal Eagles in 2014. Following their separation, the couple split ownership of the team, with Mpisane keeping the Royal Eagles name. Mam’Mkhize later bought and rebranded a team, creating Royal AM in 2019, and secured a spot in the PSL by purchasing Bloemfontein Celtic’s licence in 2021.
The couple also built a vast business empire, which included various ventures like MFJ Boutique, Zikhulise Auto Restore, and Zikhulise Cleaning. They initially made their fortune through tenders, including building RDP houses in KwaZulu-Natal.
