In a shocking turn of events, controversial music executive Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi was arrested on Thursday while appearing at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court. Baloyi, who was already out on bail for a separate case involving allegations of rape by Itumeleng Bokaba, faced a new warrant of arrest issued in connection with rapper K.O. According to Sunday World, Baloyi’s arrest was due to contempt of court after he disregarded an order to stop making allegations about K.O.’s involvement in rapper AKA’s death.
Baloyi’s arrest stems from social media posts where he accused K.O., real name Ntokozo Mdluli, and his family of being involved in the tragic shooting of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes. K.O. responded by obtaining a court interdict to prevent Baloyi from making further statements. The court order, obtained by Sunday World, directs authorities to detain Baloyi for 60 days, stating: “The Sheriff of the court and the South African Police Service are directed to take the respondent into custody and to deliver the respondent to the Leeuwkop Prison or any other prison within Gauteng for a period of sixty days.”
The accusations began after AKA’s death on February 10, 2023, when Baloyi alleged that K.O.’s brother, Siya Mdluli, who was also AKA’s road manager, was present during the incident and implied a connection. These claims led K.O. to take legal action against Baloyi.
In court, Bokaba was present with her family while Baloyi appeared with his parents. Due to the absence of the investigating officer and outstanding verification of WhatsApp chats between Baloyi and Bokaba, the case was postponed to January 28, giving prosecutors time to consult with Bokaba. Baloyi’s attorney, Matamela Khorommbi, confirmed to Sunday World that the delay allows further consultations, saying, “The docket was not before court today; the court could not get hold of the investigating officer. As things stand, we do not know whether those WhatsApp chats were verified or not.”
