Weeks after her highly publicised split from actress Letoya Makhene, entrepreneur Lebo Keswa is making headlines again—this time for her new business venture. After what has been dubbed her ‘break-up tour,’ Lebo is turning the chaos of her personal life into a brand.

Her candid interview on the Engineer Your Life podcast, which now boasts nearly a million views, catapulted her into the social media spotlight. Her frank discussion about her life, including how she hadn’t bought underwear during her relationship, went viral. Memes were made, and phrases from the interview such as “umgowo” and “a whole me” became trending topics.

Recognising an opportunity, Lebo is now capitalising on her newfound fame by launching a range of branded merchandise. The initial collection includes T-shirts priced at R200, with tracksuits, shorts, and caps on the way.

“In everything that I have gone through, I had to employ the services of a PR firm and a publicist,” she told TshisaLIVE. “Going through what I am going through with a celebrity, if I had it my way, we could have parted ways amicably, but she decided that she was going to go dirty.”

The viral ‘umgowo’ catchphrase, she revealed, was part of a PR strategy that blew up unexpectedly. “We didn’t know it was going to blow up like this. We then thought to leverage off it. This is a business opportunity. It trended for over a week.”

Alongside her merchandise, Lebo is preparing to debut her own podcast, born from the overwhelming response she received from fans. “People said they had gone through similar things and thanked me for speaking out because I had given them a voice. I became an Iyanla Vanzant overnight,” Lebo shared.
