‘Health is the new wealth’: Gayton McKenzie leads the way to a healthier nation

Sport, Arts and Culture Minister, Gayton McKenzie participated in the annual Big Walk in Tshwane recently, encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

The Big Walk is one of the department’s healthy lifestyle flagship programmes with the intention to inspire the public to take up the practice of walking as means of achieving a healthy lifestyle.

McKenzie participated in this walk with his deputy, Peace Mabe reinforcing the message of social cohesion and the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.

“This walk is about social cohesion. It is very important to live healthy,” McKenzie emphasised.

He further encouraged people to live healthy and emphasise the crucial role of embracing a healthy lifestyle.

The minister also shared his personal journey of adopting a healthier routine and the positive changes it has brought him.

“Health is the new wealth. I’ve recently joined this healthy tip, and I’m really feeling good. I’ve lost a lot of weight, and I want to encourage everybody to walk, lose weight, and live healthy,” said the minister.

McKenzie also noted his role as Minister of social cohesion, stating that a healthy lifestyle fosters a more unified community.

“I’m bringing South Africans together, white, black, coloured. We are one nation under God. We are the real rainbow nation,” he said.

As a nation striving for success, he pointed out the importance of prioritising health, encouraging everyone to take their wellness seriously.

McKenzie also mentioned plans to extend this healthy living message to other provinces, emphasising the need for health awareness throughout South Africa.
