Nominees Revealed for the 16th Annual Feather Awards 2024

The much-anticipated 16th Feather Awards nominees have been revealed, with this year’s nominations taking a slightly different tone compared to previous years. Known for its bold, sassy, and sometimes controversial nods, this year’s announcement seems to dial back the “spice,” focusing instead on a broader theme of inclusivity and celebration of diversity.

According to TshisaLIVE, while the ceremony will still be filled with the usual glitz and glamour, it’s clear that the focus has shifted. The event, scheduled for November 7 at 1 Fox in Johannesburg, will embrace the theme of “Borderless Existence.”  Alongside celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community, the Feather Awards is expanding its spotlight to include differently-abled individuals and other minority groups. This move aims to push boundaries and create a platform that truly reflects the diversity of South African society.

Co-founder of the Feather Awards, Thami Kotlolo, emphasized the importance of this year’s focus on inclusivity. “This year, we focus on inclusivity, reminding ourselves that our community thrives when all voices are heard and celebrated. We are committed to pushing boundaries and creating spaces where everyone can thrive,” Kotlolo said.

He added, “In honouring our nominees, we honour the strength of every individual — regardless of ability, background, or identity — who has contributed to the rich, diverse landscape of our society. The diverse talents and stories that our nominees bring forward inspire us all to envision a world where inclusivity reigns supreme.”

The Feather Awards has always been more than just a celebration of fashion and fame; it serves as a platform to uplift the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies. This year, the theme and the nominations reflect a deeper commitment to showcasing the unity that can be achieved when everyone is welcomed to the table.

Some of the notable nominees this year include:

Best Styled Individual: Maglera Dope Boy, Lunathi Mampofu, and Nomalanga Shozi.

Cutest Couple: Justice and Fhatuwani Mukheli, Celeste and Fezile Ntuli, as well as the Mbombo twins, Blue and Brown.

Hot Chick of the Year: Lunathi Mampofu, Ntokozo Mhlongo, and rising music star Tyla.

Musician of the Year: Young Stunna, Zoe Modiga, and Tito M Yuppe and Eeque.

As the Feather Awards continues to evolve, this year’s celebration promises not only a night of colour, music, and fun, but also a powerful message of unity and strength in diversity.
