Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has insisted that the top clubs in Africa have a monopoly that allows them to sign all the best strikers.
Those top strikers, however, are few and far between, Nabi hinted. He went on to suggest they normally end up playing for the big North African sides.
The issue came up during Nabi’s post-match press conference as Chiefs lost to Mamelodi Sundowns in their Betway Premiership clash.
Chiefs now will not be in league action until the end of the month due to the Fifa International break, and the Soweto Giants are said to be in the market to beef up the strike department.

“Honestly, the market in Africa is very, very short,” said Nabi.
“You have maybe three, four, five good strikers but all the big clubs in Africa started the war for taking them – like Esperance, Al Ahly and Zamalek.
“The market in Africa is not very rich [on strikers] in this moment.”
Chiefs will keep a close eye on the upcoming January transfer market, but there would still be plenty work before then Nabi explained.
“In October we don’t play, we have November and December and 1 January the window opens.
“I need three months to scout for the quality I need and thank you for the owners, for the committee because they’ve given me an open budget for that but I don’t want to waste the money.
“It’s not the responsibility of the coach.”
Chiefs are next in league action on October 26 with a trip to Pretoria to take on SuperSport United. That will be a gap of almost a month between fixtures, although they are penciled in for a Carling Knockout match on the weekend of October 19, but the fixtures have not yet been confirmed.
