PRETORIA – Yesterday evening at about 19:00, the South African Police Service’s National Crime Intelligence collaborated with the Gauteng Highway Patrol to operationalize information that led to the arrest of an alleged cash-in-transit robber and the recovery of a rifle, three pistols with over 200 rounds of ammunition as well as two vehicles in Sebokeng.

Crime Intelligence cascaded information on the whereabouts of the suspects that had just committed a cash-in-transit robbery in Evaton. It is reported that an unknown number of suspects robbed a security vehicle of an undisclosed amount of money after allegedly using explosives to gain entry into the armored vehicle. Two security guards were shot and injured during the robbery. The suspects fled the scene, leaving the vehicle they had used to ram the armored vehicle off the road burning.

Gauteng Highway Patrol, joined by Johannesburg Metro Police K9 Unit and Ekurhuleni Metro Police, proceeded to the house in Sebokeng where they affected the arrest and seizures.

One of the confiscated vehicles, the Ford Ranger, was positively identified as one of the getaway vehicles used by the suspects to flee the scene of the cash-in-transit robbery.

The suspect has been charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as possession of a vehicle that has been used in the commission of a crime. The 23-year-old will be appearing in the Sebokeng Magistrates Court on Thursday, 27 May 2021.”
