Good news, bad news for Kaizer Chiefs ahead of Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs should get a triple boost ahead of their highly anticipated Betway Premiership match against Orlando Pirates on Saturday, an encounter that still has a huge bearing on their league campaign.

Midfielders Gaston Sirino and Pule Mmodi will be back in the squad for the Soweto derby at FNB Stadium after serving one-match suspensions for collecting too many yellow cards.

The duo picked up their fourth yellow cards of the season in the 0-0 draw against Chippa United on April 19 and missed the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Marumo Gallants this past weekend. However, they should now be rested and ready to go against Pirates on Saturday.

Defender Inacio Miguel should also feature against the Buccaneers after he featured as an unused substitute during the Gallants match. He himself is sitting on three yellow cards, and it could have been the reason why Nabi kept him on the bench, instead of giving him a few minutes on the park after an injury layoff.

However, Amakhosi will be without youngster Wandile Duba, who picked up his fourth yellow card of the season against Gallants.

It’s a massive blow for the struggling Chiefs, who have battled to find the back of the net this season. Amakhosi have only managed 23 goals in their 25 league matches, with Duba topping the club’s goal-scoring charts with five goals in the league.

While Chiefs’ main target is next week’s Nedbank Cup final against the selfsame Pirates, they have to go for a result on Saturday to try and get back in the top eight after falling to ninth place in the standings on goal-difference.

A win over Pirates will also severely dent their rivals’ hopes of winning the first league title since 2012.
