Cape Town faced a devastating wildfire over the weekend, with flames tearing through parts of Table Mountain National Park, especially the Tokai area.

Firefighting crews battled three separate blazes that began late Friday, with the most persistent fire still active into Monday evening.

According to reports, more than 100 firefighters were deployed across various hotspots, including Upper and Lower Tokai, Noordhoek, Steenberg Estate, Ou Kaapse Weg, and Clovelly.

By Sunday, residents at the Noordhoek retirement village were evacuated as a precaution, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Former Springbok captain Siya Kolisi’s ex-wife, Rachel Kolisi, was among those affected. She took to Instagram on Monday to update her followers:

“The season that keeps giving 😭 We are all safe (thank God), our home is safe. So grateful for our firefighters, community and SPECIALLY @carliannsmithy and Dale – honestly no way I would have managed the last 24 hours without you 😭

“Exhausted, and hope I’m not speaking too soon but I think the worst is over 🙏🏼.”

Rachel’s heartfelt message struck a chord with many, as she gave credit not only to the emergency services but also to friends who stepped in during a terrifying night.

While authorities continue to monitor flare-ups, officials have urged the public to stay clear of affected areas and thanked the firefighting teams for their relentless efforts.

For now, the city breathes a cautious sigh of relief as containment improves.
