The South African Fashion Week SS25 kicks off, this Thursday in Johannesburg and before the stunning collections being revealed Cruz Vodka kicked things off with a little razzle.

Quiet luxury was the theme for the Cruz Vodka fashion week opening party, allowing guests to tap into their inner creativity.

Newlywed former Miss South Africa Natasha Vermaak (née Joubert) was glowing, looking radiant from her travels Mauritius and Cape Town.

Vermaak wore a playful gold dress, with a shirt and tie and the top by RethaN. “They say high fashion, you can wear anything,” joked Vermaak.

The TV presenter explained that she put together her outfit last minute after mixing up the dates but loved the entire outcome and confidently wore it.

Vermaak was not the only person who slayed in RethaN, digital creator K Naomi wore a black and white playful dress. Both ladies, elegantly pulled off their looks.

Former “The Mommy Club” star and beauty queen Ratile Mabitsela made her first public appearance at the event, following her estranged husband’s Elias Lehlohonolo Mothapo Mabitsela death.

Ratile said the event is worth getting outside the house and all dolled up for, especially as a fashion lover. She emphasised the importance of personalities supporting local as they can help showcase local fashion, where ever they travel to.

Also in attendance was former reality TV star and stylist Mome Mahlangu, who got candid with regarding the current challenges the local fashion industry is facing.

Mahlangu, who attended wearing a chic blazer from Shein admitted that local consumers are drawn to the fast fashion platforms because of the affordable prices, as many are not able to afford, locally made luxury brands.

Mzansi’s famous faces are known to love an exclusive invitation to an A-List event, which makes me wonder what happened to the celebrities at the Cruz SA Fashion Week opening party.

The long-running event has always been one of those events, filled with Mzansi stars, top musicians, reality TV stars and some of our favourite actors. However this year’s guest list, had me wondering if invitations got lost in the mail or RSVP deadlines missed.

A few people’s absence didn’t stop the fun from happening. The Forum in Hyde Park was a swanky affair celebrating fashion and good music. The red carpet had cameras clicking away, as those in attendance showed off their outfits, which were thankfully locally made.

Making sure the party was nothing but good vibes, Ponahalo Mojapelo kept everyone dancing and so did Metro FM presenter and DJ, Lamiez Holworthy. Sadly this year, the live entertainment ended with the DJs, no performance from Mzansi’s artists.

The South African Fashion Week runs from April 24 till 26 at The Forum in Hyde Park.
