Mzansi was left shocked after learning that there is such a thing as “funeral awards”.

Social media users were surprised to learn that a funeral parlour which conducted the funerals of the late rapper AKA and former minister of finance Tito Mboweni won awards at the inaugural Funeral Business Awards ceremony.

Funerals are very touching and emotional moments for families. It takes a lot just to organise and prepare to say your last goodbyes to your loved ones.

However, all thanks to funeral parlours, families put their trust in them to handle everything – from tents, hearse, coffin, etc.

We all, at some point, deserve and need recognition, and the Funeral Business Awards ceremony is doing exactly that!

The event, which was sponsored by First National Bank (FNB), was held at Durban’s International Convention Centre.

The funeral parlour which was responsible for the burial of the late rapper, Broodie Funeral parlour walked away with Best Service Funeral Company of the Year and top prize Funeral of the Year Award for their remarkable service for their clients.

The funeral parlour took to Instagram to share that they are honoured to be recognised for their outstanding service for their clients.

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognised this way. When you put your heart into something, you don’t always expect applause – you simply hope it makes a difference.

“This award is a symbol of that difference, and I share it with everyone, especially those who walked this journey with me, especially BFP staff members. Thank you for this moment – it means more than words can express,” they captioned the post.

Even though this was a joyous moment for the funeral parlour because they received recognition for their hard work, netizens were shocked to learn about the awards, and some expressed that they never knew that these kinds of awards existed.

“I’m not gonna lie, South Africa having funeral awards is some crazy business idea,” @CapMarsbabe wrote.

While @Matlho53 said, “We are quite a sick nation, I didn’t even know funeral awards exists.”

@kgabo_shilabjwe added, “The next thing we have ‘who did best category’ what the hell is funeral awards? This is madness.”
