TV host and model Lalla Hirayama has opened up about her journey with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), sharing a heartfelt update on Instagram about the changes she has made in her life and the progress she has seen in her health.
In her post, Lalla reflected on the major decisions she has made over the years, including moving to a smaller town and stepping away from the entertainment industry. “Since I last shared my experiences a few years ago, so much has changed. I’ve moved to a smaller town that offers a more peaceful & organic way of living, & I made the brave decision to leave the entertainment industry to focus on my small business & my mental health,” she wrote.
She explained that prioritising self-care has helped her in ways she never expected. “Doing so allowed me many things that I did not consider as important as being successful, such as prioritizing self-care, embracing easier forms of exercise, & carving out more ‘me time.’ I’ve let go of toxic relationships and environments, learning to let go of my care for others’ opinions & replace it with newfound self-acceptance & respect.”
One of the biggest improvements she has noticed is in her PCOS symptoms. She shared that she has gained some weight, going from 52-54kg to 60kg, but believes this is a positive and healthy shift for her body.
Another major decision she made was to remove her breast implants, which she says has significantly helped with her fatigue and anxiety. “About 4 months ago, I had my breast implants removed, which has greatly alleviated my fatigue issues & my anxiety.”
She also spoke about how she has adjusted her lifestyle to support her health, including reducing intense workouts and focusing on activities she enjoys. “I find myself spending less time in the gym & more time enjoying walks with my horses & dogs, which has positively impacted my nervous system.”
Lalla credits supplements and reducing inflammation in her body for playing a big role in improving her condition. While she admits that enjoying wine isn’t always great for PCOS, she believes in balance. “We MUST all live a little & there’s no such thing as perfection,” she added.
She also acknowledged that making such changes is not always easy for everyone. “I am aware that how I have been able to change my way of life is not as easy for the majority to do. I am not blind to the realities faced by so many. With that being said, this is my journey. I honour the choices I have made & I believe everyone’s story should be told.”
Lalla shared the exciting news that her latest medical check-up revealed no cysts on her ovaries. “Dr van Waart has now given me an all-clear! NO CYSTS AT ALL ON MY OVARIES! As Dr Sumaya Ibrahim, my gynae in JHB, would remember, I had clusters on both ovaries for years.”
She also credited her doctor’s treatment plan for her incredible progress. “It’s almost been 8 years on Dr Cooper’s protocol & what a difference. As many of my fellow PCOS cysters know, healing can be a slow journey, but every step forward is worth celebrating!”
