K9 Patrol Pet Army member arrested after supergluing dog's ear

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA has launched an investigation into allegations of animal cruelty involving Jamie Pieterse, a member of K9 Patrol Pet Army—a non-profit organisation that solicits public donations under the guise of enhancing animal welfare.

The inquiry was triggered by distressing video footage showing Pieterse using inhumane methods to treat an injured dog in Hanover Park.

In the footage, Pieterse is seen attempting to fix the dog’s torn ear using super glue and aloe, without cleaning the wound or administering pain relief or antibiotics—an approach that disregards accepted veterinary standards.

Pieterse is not registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) and is not legally permitted to perform veterinary procedures.

The video shows the dog in visible distress, crying out in pain as it is forcibly restrained while Pieterse applies the glue.

This video evidence has been crucial in building a case against him.

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA, in collaboration with the Kirstenhof SAPS and City of Cape Town Law Enforcement, facilitated Pieterse’s arrest.

He now faces charges under the Animals Protection Act for animal cruelty, as well as additional charges for performing unlicensed veterinary procedures in violation of the Veterinary and Para-Veterinary Professions Act.

SPCA Inspector Jeffrey Mfini intervened to ensure the dog received urgent veterinary care, and the animal is currently being treated at the SPCA Hospital.

The SPCA urges the public to remain vigilant when donating to animal welfare organisations.
