The relationship between the African National Congress (ANC) under the leadership of the Provincial Task Team (PTT) and its alliance partners in KwaZulu-Natal is reportedly on a positive track.
Edwin Mkhize, the leader of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) in KwaZulu-Natal, expressed optimism regarding the current dynamics, stating that while it is still early to draw definitive conclusions, the relationship appears to be improving.
Mkhize’s comments follow remarks from Mike Mabuyakhulu, the leader of the Provincial Task Team (PTT), who indicated that the PTT is collaborating effectively with the alliance on a programme designed to revive ANC structures and re-establish its presence in communities.
The relationship between the ANC and its alliance partners had reached a low point, with accusations of neglect from the ANC’s leadership, including a failure to attend alliance meetings.
However, Mabuyakhulu has expressed enthusiasm for the revival programme, noting that even the party’s alliance partners are actively involved and have welcomed the initiatives being put forward.
Mkhize reiterated their commitment to working alongside the ANC on these revival programmes. He stated, “As for the relationship, it is still too early to say, but we can say that things seem to be moving in the right direction. We say it is too early to draw conclusions because even with the previous leadership, they initially seemed to understand the importance of the alliance, and then it just started to fall apart.”
The ANC and its alliance partners navigate this renewed relationship with the focus remains on strengthening ties and ensuring that the party can effectively engage with communities across KwaZulu-Natal.
