The iconic British supermodel Naomi Campbell recently praised one of South Africa’s fashion powerhouses, Thebe Magugu, as one of the top designers in the fashion industry.
Thebetsile ”Thebe” Magugu is a South African-born, award-winning fashion designer who owns the internationally acclaimed South African brand named after himself.
In a recent interview with a British publication, “i-D Magazine”, Campbell was asked about the young designers she has her eyes on, and she revealed Magugu as one of them.
“Then there’s Thebe Magugu from South Africa, who’s transcending fashion entirely. His new space in Johannesburg is revolutionary – part store, part cultural hub, spotlighting other creatives through exhibitions and panels,” Campbell shared.
The fashion designer took to Instagram to share all about the Magugu house that Campbell spoke about in her interview.
“Magugu House (@maguguhouse) is our flagship retail space, art gallery and cultural programming space, located in the Dunkeld suburb of Johannesburg. Opened in May 2024, we converted a 1930s English Manor into our cultural depository of fashion, art, history and heritage,” Magugu shared.

She wore the “Fish & Chips” look from the Magugu SS23 collection, which featured a coated shell hoodie and a printed pleated skirt.

Magugu has also worked with some of our local celebrities to launch most of his collections.
Celebrities such as the legendary John Kani, Boity Thulo, Zakes Bantwini and Nandi Madida, Anele Mdoda, Thapelo Mokoena, Zoe Modiga and more.
