Recent Kaizer Chiefs signing Tashreeq Morris will not magically solve the issue of the Soweto Giants scoring more goals, according to former Orlando Pirates coach Roger de Sa.
The former Bafana Bafana keeper De Sa has coached eight different teams in South Africa, and also mentored Morris when he was just a youngster at Ajax Cape Town.
While De Sa spoke of the ability of the 30-year-old Morris in general play, he cautioned that he would not likely become a prolific goalscorer for Chiefs.
Though Chiefs rank third in goals scored this season in the Betway Premiership with 17 strikes, they are some way behind Pirates (22) and Mamelodi Sundowns (24).
“I coached him as a youngster at Ajax Cape Town when he was breaking through into the first team,” De Sa told Far Post.
“He became a regular in the first team at a young age. We played him as an outright number nine, but sometimes, he could play out on the wing because of his speed and aggression, and he was willing to get into the box.
“Look, he is a big, strong player, physically very good, very honest player, he works extremely hard. But technically, I wouldn’t say he is your top player. He is not the type of guy who’s got fantastic abilities, but he has enough, and he makes up for it with his hard work and honesty in the game.”
The reason he would still be a big asset for Chiefs would be his attitude, explained De Sa.
“One thing you can be sure of with Tashreeq Morris is that he will always give 100%. I can put my house on that. He will always give his best in every game and training session.”
