That’s one of the sentiments echoed from national tour operators as part of a Durban Tourism welcome event kicking off the festive season.
The group which included hospitality stakeholders were given a warm welcoming to the city as Durban Tourism showed off all that the city had to offer this season.
With over 800,000 visitors expected to descend onto Durban for the holiday season, the city has pulled out all stops to ensure safety and efficiency is delivered.
“Each year during our festive season we deploy extra security across the city to ensure visibility and confidence in our city as a key tourist destination,” Durban Tourism’s deputy head, Winile Mntungwe told .
“We are a warm city in a hospitable province and visitors will enjoy that unforgettable experience given all we have to offer and we have a series of lifestyle and festive events including news eve in many different parts of the City.”
The majority of Durban’s main beaches are open and ready for the season whilst hoteliers and restauranteurs are waiting to showcase their offerings. It’s the time of the year when Durban really comes together as a city to welcome visitors – and it’s not something they take for granted.
With its lush, rolling greenery, Gentian style canals and canoes, beaches, dining spots reflecting the diversity of the city – and many awards winning eateries, the city is a melting pot of cultures and proud of its African footprint infused with Eastern and European influences, Durban is a city like no other in South Africa. And, it’s people are made different.
Resilient, determined and passionate about their city. Still recovering from covid, floods and other disasters, it’s a city of grit, passion and natural beauty. It’s a city that never gives up. And with multi million rand investments being injected across projects in the city, Durban is proving its no longer the poor step child of the country’s tourism.
It’s a serious contender.
