Popular South African beauty influencer, Vongai Mapho is facing online backlash for a post she made on October 25, promoting the popular alcohol beverage, Ice Tropez, in which she mentioned that the100 percent alcohol free beverage is safe to consume for not only pregnant mothers but children as well.

Ice Tropez is a French, lightly sparkling, wine cocktail infused with exotic white peach flavour which is popular and preferred drink amongst South Africans. It gained popularity in 2022 when it became the most expensive sparkling wine which retails at R480 for a six pack while a single bottle retails at R90.

Mapho took to Instagram advertising the alcohol free beverage, she wrote:

“Did you know? Unlike other non-alcoholic beverages, Ice Tropez zero is not de-alcoholised – it’s 100 percent alcohol free, making it perfectly safe for expecting moms, kids and the whole family to enjoy.”

The provocative lengthy captioned continued, “In my previous post, some expecting moms shared how Ice Tropez zero is their pregnancy drink of choice, and I’m curious… Would you sip on it during pregnancy? Or would you let your little ones give it a try? “

Social media users flooded the comment section of the influencer, which made the post to gain traction again with many of them questioning Mapho for her caption.

Instagram user @lindelwa.sambo commented, “Kids? Why would you want kids to drink this even if it is 100 percent alcohol free? What nonsense.”

Instagram user @igubevukazi wrote: “This is truly despicable. Even if it’s non-alcoholic, it’s a traditionally alcoholic drink and children have no business drinking it. Yahoo hay guys no! We have to draw a line somewhere and stand for something,”

While Instagram user @slie_nxumalo commented, “This is reckless especially in a country grappling underage drinking. Go back to the drawing board,”

Even though many comments were attacking the mother-of-one for advertising this to pregnant women and kids, other Instagram users were happy that there is a beverage that one can consume even if they are expecting.

Instagram user @amanda.jaft wrote: “I would have it during pregnancy, it tastes really good and it’s very light,”

Another Instagram user @thuli_hanzo said, “Why not? It;s a harness treat. And if I am pregnant, I will not feel left out in a social gathering when others are having their beverages,”
