African Fashion International officially closed the 2024 fashion calendar with the stunning Cape Town Fashion Week: The Edit Spring Summer 24.
The event that took place at the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse saw African designer showcase their creations, with well-known figures walking the runway as muses.
One of the models who strutted their stuff includes reigning Miss South Africa Mia Loux, who showcased the national costume she would’ve worn at Miss Universe.
“The gown is an original work of art by Dr Esther Mahlangu, one of South Africa’s most iconic cultural ambassadors and celebrates our interconnectedness. Its intricate handmade design demonstrates the creative traditions of South Africa,” said Le Roux.
“It is a silent but powerful request to celebrate our differences, to preserve our cultural practices and to foster inclusion so that we can build a sustainable future.
“As Maya Angelou famously wrote, ‘Through adversity still, I rise’. This has rung true for me and Dr Mahlangu, as we bring South African cultures together to inspire unity. They are also the words I have carried with me during this difficult time.”
Local designer Londeka Buthelezi-Ndaba of Malondie unveiled a sultry resort collection inspired by peacocks.
“The collection exuded high-end allure, suitable for various occasions- from a beach vacation, fine dining, or a sophisticated evening event,” reported AFI.
Playing around with their signature classic silhouettes, Bathini Designs focuses on relaxed, loose fits that are still sexy.
Alia Bare’s whimsical collection was an ode to femininity and design prowess.
