Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina shined brightly on the global stage at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico City on Saturday, 16 November. Although she didn’t claim the ultimate crown, she earned the prestigious titles of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania and First Runner-Up.
Chidimma’s impressive accomplishments came with a reward package fit for royalty. Nigerian journalist David Hundeyin revealed the details in a tweet, saying:
“Her package as Miss Universe first runner-up includes $100,000 (R1,7 million) cash, a 1-year lease on a luxury apartment in New York, a $3m (R51 million) diamond-encrusted crown, and connections and contacts to kick off a successful career in modeling and showbiz.”
These prizes position Chidimma for a bright future far beyond the pageant stage.
Speaking to her followers in an Instagram clip after her crowning, Chidimma expressed her gratitude and pride. According to The South African News, she said:
“I am so proud of myself. I didn’t expect to get this far. I am so grateful. The competition was really tough, but I’m so glad I pulled through. Not just for Nigeria, but for Africa.”
