South African singer Tyla is gearing up to release a brand-new single, Tears, in collaboration with Coke Studio on November 20. This highly anticipated track marks a new direction for Tyla, who shared the news on Instagram with a snippet of the song and the caption, “‘Tears’ coming November 20th! A song in partnership with @CocaCola.”
This release is part of Tyla’s involvement in Coke Studio’s 2024 line-up, where she joins global R&B star Usher Raymond. As part of the collaboration, Tyla will perform Tears live at a special Coke Studio event in Johannesburg.
In an interview with Coke Studio, Tyla revealed that Tears allowed her to explore a more soulful sound, moving away from her usual dance-focused music. “I feel like in a lot of my songs, I’m dancing a lot. I really wanted a song where I could just sing, be more raw with people, and showcase my voice this time,” she shared.
Tyla also opened up about her fans and family. She recalled a memorable experience in Asia, saying, “People were crying, shaking… one fan even got a tattoo of my signature.” When asked about her favourite person to share a Coke with, Tyla answered, “My mother. She introduced me to Coca-Cola. Every single day there’d be a 2L in the fridge, and if my father didn’t bring it home, my mother would be upset with him.”
She also shared advice for aspiring musicians: “Release what you want to release. Do things that you want to do and not worry too much about what other people think… I used to feel like I had to control everything, and that took away some of the joy.”
