Katlego Lebogang Returns to Showmax in Bold New Role in Soft Life

Spinners actress Katlego Lebogang is set to make waves with her new role in Showmax’s upcoming drama series, Soft Life, premiering on 2 December 2024. Known for her fearless performances, Katlego will take on the character Zinhle, a bold, unapologetic woman who lives for the finer things in life. Zinhle is the star at NubiaBlaq, an exclusive agency with a hidden side – it doubles as a high-end escort service led by the savvy Zam, portrayed by Mampho Brescia.

Describing her character, Katlego shared, “I never judge my characters. What I like about Zinhle is her drive. Despite the unconventional career path, she knows what she wants and will stop at nothing to achieve her goals. She’s a woman who has done a lot for herself, despite not coming from privilege.”

Zinhle’s character shines as someone who embraces her independence and sexuality without reservations. Katlego didn’t hesitate to explore this side of Zinhle, finding it an opportunity to dive deeper into her character’s backstory. “I wasn’t apprehensive. In fact, it made me curious to explore her backstory. For Zinhle, sex isn’t complicated – she keeps it moving.”

To shape Zinhle’s character, Katlego drew inspiration from other dynamic female leads in shows like Insecure and Harlem, both of which feature women navigating self-discovery and empowerment. “Both shows depict women on a journey of self-discovery, and that was a great reference point for Zinhle’s character,” Katlego explained.

Working alongside female directors Nozipho Nkelemba and Nthabising Mokoena brought an extra layer of comfort for Katlego. “Collaborating with Nozipho and Nthabiseng was a highlight,” she noted. “They provided a safe and supportive environment for the sensitive themes addressed in Soft Life.”

Committed to delivering an authentic portrayal, Katlego embraces the essence of Zinhle’s story. “Our job as actors is to connect with the soul and heart of our characters. Zinhle may be different from me, but there’s always something to relate to. I feel responsible to portray her without holding back.”

Soft Life explores themes that Katlego believes will spark conversations, especially among male viewers. “They might be a bit shook! The show highlights ongoing gender dynamics and societal dialogue. It’s going to spark important conversations,” she said with a laugh.

With its compelling storyline and unique perspective, Katlego is confident that Soft Life will capture audiences’ attention. “This is a new story. It’s not a new experience, but it offers a fresh perspective on real-life situations,” she remarked.

Soft Life debuts on 2 December 2024, with three episodes dropping initially and new episodes releasing every Monday until 10 February 2025. Get ready for a series that promises drama, depth, and plenty of thought-provoking moments.
