Zonke Dikana Faces R18 Million Tax Debt, Legal Team Assists with Repayment

South African singer, producer, and composer Zonke Dikana is allegedly dealing with an R18 million debt owed to the South African Revenue Services (SARS). Known for her soulful voice and hits like Tonight, Zonke has allegedly defaulted on her taxes over the past few years, sparking legal action from SARS.

According to ZiMoja, who obtained official documents on the matter, a garnishing order has been placed on Zonke’s bank account to collect the overdue funds in instalments. A source close to the singer shared insights, explaining that while Zonke has regularly paid her taxes, “some details slipped through the cracks, and she defaulted.” For self-employed artists, who often work on a per-invoice basis, this can be a common risk.

This year, despite her financial woes, Zonke acquired two luxury vehicles—a Bentley and a Mercedes V Class bus—to support her touring endeavour’s. However, the source emphasised that Zonke’s current struggle stems from SARS’s inability to reach her in time to resolve the matter. “The issue here is not defaulting, but the taxman struggled to reach her. The matter could have been resolved long ago, but she was unreachable, and her debt accumulated with charges.”

With her legal team and accountants actively managing the repayment, Zonke appears to be addressing her financial obligations.
