JUST IN: Another person arrested in connection with Lusikisiki mass shooting

On Thursday morning Eastern Cape police announced that they had arrested another person in connection with the mass shooting incident in Lusikisiki that left 18 people dead, bringing the total number of suspects to seven,

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said the 46-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with 18 counts of murder.

He is expected to appear in the Lusikisiki Magsitrate’s Court on Thursday.

Police said more details would be provided at a later stage.

Six people have been arrested in connection with the two shooting incidents on September 28, 2024 that left 15 women and three men dead.

The motive for the horror killings are not known at this stage.

The youngest victim was a 14-year-old boy.

The six accused are murder parolee Siphosoxolo Myekethe, 45, Zenande Paya, 38, Mawethu Nomdlembu, 36, Aphiwe “AP” Ndende, 25, Lwando Antony Abi, 33, and Bonga Hintsa, 32.

All the accused remain in police custody after they abandoned their bail applications.

There have been a spate of shootings in the Eastern Cape recently.

Six community patrollers were gunned down in Qumbu earlier this month, while five men were shot dead in a informal settlement in New Brighton.

In another shooting incident two people died after gunmen stormed their home while they were watching television.

Police later arrested four people, and it is believed the murders were insurance related.
