The body of a 42-year-old man was discovered floating in a dam near Meadows Road in Free State.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli said that on Wednesday, at around 9.45am, Bloemspruit police got information about a Toyota Corolla that had been abandoned near the dam since Friday.

“A patrol vehicle was dispatched to the scene and found a blue Toyota Corolla with Free State registration numbers and doors unlocked,” said Kareli.

“The team started searching for the occupants of the vehicle around the dam and discovered the body of a male floating in the water. Bloemfontein Diving Unit were summoned to the scene and the body was identified.”

The 42-year-old male victim’s relatives last saw him driving the vehicle on Friday. Bloemspruit police are looking into an inquest.

In another case involving water, a four-month-old baby girl’s body was found floating in a river in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and was covered in flies.

The corpse was discovered by children in the community when they were walking adjacent to the river.

“According to reports from the scene, the baby went missing the previous evening during load shedding and despite family and community searching throughout the night, the baby was not found.

“Children walking past the river noticed something floating in the river covered in flies and upon closer inspection noted it was the little girl,” said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Dylan Meyrick.
