The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has announced payment dates for its 27 million social welfare beneficiaries for November 2024.

The grant payment amounts for November are updated to reflect the final annual increase, as announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana in his 2024 Budget Speech earlier this year.

Older Persons (75+ years): R2,210

Grant-in-Aid: R530
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant: R370.
Those on the SRD grant will have to wait for an SMS from Sassa for their grant payments, which is usually a week after
Meanwhile, Sassa said it’s beneficiaries – more than 27 million people – can start transitioning from their gold cards to the new Postbank black card, from November.
According to Postbank, the new Sassa black Mzansi Debit Card signifies an improvement in security features, and “reduces the risk of fraud during grant collection”.
The black card is linked to a Mzansi Debit Account which will now allow beneficiaries to manage debit orders for bills and work at more retail stores and ATMs across South Africa.
The new card can be obtained by beneficiaries at no cost, and while the gold card remains active for now, beneficiaries are encouraged to switch to the new black card as soon as possible to avoid any delays once the gold cards eventually become invalid.
To receive the new black card, beneficiaries must follow these steps:
Find a Collection Location
Dial 120218*3# on your phone. Select Option 1, then choose your province from the list of nearby collection locations, which include selected Pick n Pay and Boxer stores.
When collecting the new card, ensure you bring along your Valid South African ID or temporary ID as well as proof of residence.
If collecting on behalf of someone, you need to bring a signed Sassa proxy letter giving you permission, as well.
Asylum seekers must present their official Sassa approval letter.
Special assistance
Postbank offers home visits to sick, elderly, disabled or bedridden beneficiaries who cannot travel to collection sites. Beneficiaries can contact Sassa directly to arrange the service.
After collection, follow the activation instructions as provided, as you cannot use the card until it has been activated.
