Umkhokha: The Curse is saying goodbye to yet another lead actor as Msizi Njapha, who portrayed the fiery Khulekani Mthembu, is leaving the popular Mzansi Magic drama. The 36-year-old actor and musician from Mbumbulu, south of Durban, confirmed his departure from the show, which airs weekdays at 8:30 p.m.
Msizi’s character, Khulekani, was a central figure in a power struggle for control of the family church, often clashing with his brother Zamcolo. His exit follows closely on the heels of Angela Zuma, who played Nomkhosi Mthembu and left the show to join The Lion King in Toronto, Canada.
Although Msizi’s next move remains unclear, he spoke to Daily Sun to address the swirling rumors of being fired. “I didn’t leave or get fired. I had a great time on the show, and I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunity and the growth it brought about. But the story of my character had to come to an end. It’s Umkhokha at the end of the day. Death is the center of the story,” he clarified.
Portia Hlongwane, spokeswoman for Umkhokha: The Curse, confirmed that Msizi’s character had naturally reached the end of its storyline in season two. “No one has been fired from the show,” she said.
Umkhokha has been known for its twists and cast changes. Mbuso Khoza, who plays the beloved character Maphalala, recently returned after leaving the show twice. His absence left fans frustrated, and he has since vowed not to leave the show again, recognising the strong demand for his return.
