Getting his haircut at popular barbershop Legends Barber – which has turned into meme worthy pictures. These are just some of the fond memories South African are left with of the minister of cooking, following his passing.

Mboweni died on Saturday night after a short illness, his family said in a statement. He was 65.

Mboweni’s Twitter posts over the years showing off his culinary ‘prowess,’ often ended in tears of laughter, with the former finance minister being the butt of jokes.

In political circles, Mboweni was known for his dedication and selfless service sacrifice for the people of South Africa but on social media he was known for his love of being in the kitchen.

Even with his questionable cooking skills, that left many people confused, like his skills in chopping tomatoes, onions, and garlic. Mboweni in the kitchen had a few hits and misses but always won when it came to getting people to engage his content.

His dishes may have not always been appetising for many people but it got many talking. From the amount of garlic he uses in his food, and how he doesn’t chop his vegetables finely enough. His favourite ingredients when cooking any meal include onions, red and yellow peppers, carrots, curry powder, and copious amounts of garlic. Like, a lot of garlic.

Mboweni’s twitter presence had people talking about him showing the softer side to the politician. His love for his beloved Clarks’ shoes – never switching brands because don’t change what works for you.
