Despite being bought by MI Cape Town in the SA20 auction for R4.3 million, Reeza Hendricks said it was still disappointing to be released by the Joburg Super Kings.
The 35-year-old Proteas player, though, did not exactly light it up for the Super Kings as he made two half centuries in as many seasons for the side.
However, having made a name for himself plying his trade at the Wanderers for the Lions over a number of years – it was still bitter-sweet to making the move down south for the competition.
The Proteas opener revealed to SportsBoom.com how he found out he would be moving away from the Super Kings.

‘Such is life’
“A couple of months ago when Joburg Super Kings released me it was obviously disappointing,” Hendricks said.
“But such is life and such is sport,” he added.
Moving to Cape Town would still be an exciting challenge, Hendricks explained.
“So, as they say, when one door closes another opens. I’m very grateful for this opportunity that’s come my way so I’m definitely looking forward to it.
“MI Cape Town looks like they have a strong team on paper so hopefully, the team can do some good things. Going there I will try to contribute as best as I possibly can and add some value to contribute to potentially getting into the final and lifting the trophy.”
“So, I’m happy and grateful for the opportunity and hopefully, we can do good things.”
With the new season of the SA20 only starting in January, Hendricks will first be in action for the Lions in the Cricket South Africa T20 Challenge.
