AmaZulu have appointed Arthur Zwane and Vusimuzi Vilakazi as co-coaches to help turn their season around following a winless start to their Betway Premiership campaign.

Usuthu sacked Pablo Franco Martin last week Monday three matches into the new season.

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu confirmed the appointments of former Kaizer Chiefs coach Zwane and the team’s DStv Diski Challenge coach, Vilakazi, late on Tuesday night.

Zungu expressed confidence in the pair’s ability to get the team back to winning ways. The duo will at least have some breathing space and time to get to know the players during the current international break, before their first match in charge against Stellenbosch FC in the Carling Cup on the weekend of October 18-20.

“Their combined experience as both coaches and former professional players will be crucial in developing our younger talents and guiding our seasoned players in the task ahead,” Zungu said in a statement.

Zwane has been involved with Chiefs’ academy over the last 18 months following his sacking as the team’s head coach. Vilakazi, meanwhile, had helped Richards Bay survive the drop last season during the promotion-relegation playoffs, but was let go shortly afterwards.

Three straight defeats has seen AmaZulu slip to the bottom of the Premiership table behind 15th-placed TS Galaxy, who have also lost all three of their opening matches, but have a better goal difference than the Durban side.

AmaZulu finished in 11th position in the previous campaign in Martin’s first season in charge. However, he got the sack just 15 months into his three-year deal after the terrible start to the season.
