After making waves on Showmax’s reality show Born Into Fame, YFM presenter Shamiso Mosaka went from being a fan favourite to being labeled a bully. In an interview with TrueLove magazine, the daughter of broadcasting legend Azania Mosaka revealed that despite the backlash, she has no regrets about how she portrayed herself on the show.
Co-starring alongside Phila Madlingozi, Robbie Malinga Jr, and Owami and AJ Mafokate, the show offered a glimpse into the lives of celebrity children. However, with all the drama that unfolded, Shamiso found herself under scrutiny, especially for her interactions with AJ Mafokate.
“At first people loved me and then hated me,” Shamiso shared, reflecting on how public opinion shifted during the season. She likened the experience to her own reality TV viewing habits, where she would start out liking a character only to end up disliking them. “I always say it’s so interesting to be perceived because you know yourself, you know your truth.”
While Shamiso embraces her assertive and tough personality, she admits she was not entirely happy with how the show edited certain moments. “I don’t necessarily appreciate how the show was edited. There’s a lot of missing bits that kind of explain my certain reaction to things,” she explained, adding that the edits likely contributed to viewers labeling her as a bully.
One of the more controversial moments involved AJ Mafokate’s romantic advances towards her, which didn’t sit well with viewers since AJ is in an eight-year relationship. Shamiso was among those calling out his behaviour. “For me, trying to ‘cheat’ on camera is insane… but a lot of that was off-camera as well,” she revealed. Shamiso also found herself unfairly scrutinised for AJ’s actions, saying, “I asked you on camera if you’re single and you said yes. So how can I respect a situation that you don’t respect?”
Despite the tension, Shamiso was grateful for AJ’s fiancée, who handled the situation with grace. “I think she’s a girl’s girl,” she said.
Born Into Fame marked Shamiso’s reality TV debut, and she hopes for a second season, saying, “I’m so open to it. Once you get through the initial brunt of people’s perception of you and push past, it’s actually quite a fun experience.”
Shamiso’s career is also on the rise. She recently received a promotion at YFM, now hosting three shows throughout the week. And for those who might not be her biggest fans, Shamiso has a warning: “If you hate me, you’re gonna be sick of me by the time I’m done.”
