Cape Town-based designers Lukhanyo Mdingi and Maxhosa Africa have been named as some of the best designers in the Business of Fashion 500 List Class of 2024.
The BoF 500 is a list of phenomenal people shaping the global fashion industry. The list is not only limited to fashion designers but also includes retailers, models, the media, executives, the creative class, and catalysts.
It celebrates fashion creatives from all over the world who use their respective talents to make a significant difference in the industry.
Mdingi, who made it to the list under the designers’ category, was honoured.
“Incredibly delighted to be part of the BoF 500 List, Class of 2024. Where success and challenges are forever in parallels with one another, it’s an honour to be recognised and included in the global conversation of culture, design and community,” he said.
Laduma Ngxokolo, creative director of Maxhosa, said this one is dedicated to his late mother.
“Mama would be super proud to learn his son is included on the 2024 @bof #BOF500 amongst the people that are shaping the global fashion industry.
“Shoutout to Don Thixo [God], @MAXHOSA family and our Patrons,” said the designer, who recently launched his spring/summer 25 collection at Paris Fashion Week.
Other African creatives who made it to the list include Gambian-Spanish make-up artist Ammy Drammey, who is one of the industry’s most sought-after emerging beauty talents.
Nigerian photographer Stephen Tayo also cracked a nod for his sharp eye when capturing street style.
Kenya’s Wandi Gichuru was also honoured for her contribution to high-street fashion through her brand, Vivo.
