AmaZulu wield the axe as coach Pablo Franco Martin shown the door

AmaZulu made the shock announcement on Monday that the club has fired Spanish coach Pablo Franco Martin, just three matches into the new Betway Premiership season.

It’s been a poor start to the league for AmaZulu, with three defeats to begin their campaign. It has seen the club cling to rock bottom of the log in 16th position, behind TS Galaxy who have also lost all three of their opening matches but who are behind on goal difference.

AmaZulu have already conceded six goals in those three fixtures, while they have scored just twice.

Last season, AmaZulu were the 11th place finishers, and would have been quick to remind the public that they finished on the same point-tally as the ‘mighty’ Kaizer Chiefs.

Short time in charge

The 44-year-old Martin joined AmaZulu in June last year.

In fact, AmaZulu have also given the boot to Martin’s assistant Aitor van den Brule.

“AmaZulu FC has decided to part ways with Head Coach Pablo Franco Martin and Assistant Aitor Van Den Brule,” AmaZulu FC said in a statement.

“We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to both Pablo Franco Martin and Aitor Van Den Brule for their contributions during the last 15 months at the helm of the team.

“Their dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed, and we appreciate all the effort they have put into their roles.

“We wish them the best in their future endeavours and extend our warmest regards as they move forward in their careers. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
