The ANC KwaZulu Natal province chapter is undeterred by reports which suggest that the opposition will win next year’s general elections.

Provincial secretary Bheki Mtolo told a media briefing in Durban that the ANC was stronger than ever.

He stated that dethroning the ruling party was a pipeline dream which the opposition had.

South Africa heads to the polls in 2024 and many analysts are predicting another shock at the polls as the ANC support figures continue dwindling.

In a new development, the axe fell on the ANC Youth League branches of Alfred Nzo, Sarah Baartman and Nelson Mandela regions.

The league made the announcement on Saturday after it wrapped up its first provincial executive committee meeting and induction, which started on Thursday in East London. It said the decision came after it had assessed its regions.

“We received a comprehensive report from the office of the provincial secretary about the state of the organisation, particularly in regions, subregions, and branches,” the league’s provincial secretary Francisco Dyantyi said in a statement.

“It was with great concern that we learnt of the appalling state of some regions. Most regions in the province are in good standing and active in carrying out the organisation’s work.

“We looked at the state of each individual region: branches in good standing, organisational programmes and activity, participation in ANC meetings and programmes and frequency with which compulsory meetings sit.”

The league said it would continue with efforts to rebuild its structures in the disbanded regions.

Young people in the regions will also push for ANC victory in the 2024 general elections.
