Musician and businesswoman Busiswa Gqulu will feature in a recently launched US two-part show Love & Hip Hop: Lineage to Legacy, premiering on Monday, 7 February 2022.
The show sees the SBWL singer collaborating with the members of both the Love & Hip Hop and Black Ink Crew franchises as the two shows are teaming up for a special two-part event where they will explore their roots and ancestry.
“I am so excited to be part of this 2-part show because its about African ancestry and the cast finding their lineage including myself. I am happy to be a part of this because everyone knows how proud I am to be an African girl who reaches all part of the world and now gets to be a part of one of the biggest reality franchises in the world,” said Busiswa.
While on a six-week tour in the USA late last year, Busiswa who was there traveling across six cities and performing at eight events including Afro Carnival, One World Global Music Festival and another where she opened for Nigerian superstar Wizkid, was approached by the show’s executive producer Mona Scott-Young to be part of the two-part special.
Hosted by MTV News Correspondent Dometi Pongo, the recently announced special will star Remy Ma, Papoose, Yandy Smith-Harris, Rich Dollaz, Tokyo Vanity, Paris Phillips, Karlie Redd, and Momma Dee as they “examine the harsh effects of slavery and challenge stereotypes with Black culture, while also celebrating Africa’s rich history, music, craftsmanship, style, dance and food.” Busiswa, along with Liberian celebrity chef Chauncy Yarngo and fellow South African singer Nomcebo Zikode, are set to make special appearances.
“I was invited to the show by Mona Scott-Young the executive producer, she is an incredible woman running this franchise. I got on her radar while I was in the US and also her knowing my work from the feature with Beyonce must have had its part. My scenes were shot on location in Atlanta and the entire shoot was amazing and such a great experience to meet all of the cast and to learn tricks of the trade from Mona Scott-Young as someone who really plans to go much deeper into broadcasting and hopefully be able to do a second season of my reality show “Her Majesty: Busiswaah” with BET.
“My role on the show as an Africa artist was to meet with the African America artists and really share what its been like to be someone who’s always known my lineage, clan names, heritage, culture and able to make music in my native language isiXhosa and what that has been like. Compared to how they’ve struggled even know the lineage of their grandparents. It was beautiful to fly the flag high for my Africaness, heritage, lineage and culture”, concluded Busiswa.
Busiswa is set to be one of the headliners for AfroNation Peurto Rico alongside Meg Thee Stallion, Wizkid and other African talents. She has also been announced one of numerous performers heading to Portugal in June 2022 for the Trace Made in Africa Festival.
Love & Hip Hop: Lineage to Legacy, premiering on Monday, 7 February and Monday, 14 February at 9 p.m. ET/PT on VH1 in the USA. Broadcasting dates for Africa are yet to be announced.
