Sonia Mbele On People Still Using Her Generations Character Name ‘Ntombi’. It been over a decade since the old format Generations took a break and came back as Generations:The Legacy. Although majority of the old characters were fired off the show, dies hard fans are still hooked on the old school character, especially Ntombi who was a fan favourite.
Actress and producer Sonia Mbele played the role of Ntombi Dlomo on Generations who was married to Sibusiso Dlomo played by the late Menzi Ngubane. Mbele left the show in 2009, after 6 years on the show, having joined in 2003. 12 years later, fans still haven’t quite shaken the role off yet and are still referring to the actress as Ntombi. Taking to social media, Mbele commented sharing how shook she is that people still call her by that name, which we are convinced she is not a fan of.
“Y’all are really still calling me Ntombi?” she wrote.
Many year following her departure on the show, Mbele finally spilt the beans on why she quite the show and it apparently was all her ex husbands doing.
Mbele who was previously was married to big time lawyer Leslie Sedibe was a guest on the latest episode of Cheeky Palate and she shared that her husband wasn’t a big fan of her acting career. According to Sonia she was made to quit her role as ‘Ntombi’ on Generations by her now former husband.
Apparently things got so tense at the Sedibe household because Leslie wasn’t a fan of Sonia’s onscreen character who shared a special bond with onscreen husband Menzi Ngubane’s character, Sibusiso Dlhlomo also known as Ngamla.
The onscreen romance clearly got a bit too real for Leslie that he forbid her from watching herself on television and eventually got her to quit the show. Things escalated to the point where Sonia’s mother had to intervene and call a family meeting because of his controlling ways. Sonia made it clear that all the rumours of her marrying Leslie for money were false because Sedibe earned a salary at the end of the month just like she did.
“I don’t want to be accused for marrying for money, because I didn’t , I married for love” Sonia said.
Although things ended on a sour note, Sonia has been divorced for several years now and she is doing very well considering that she can do whatever she pleases. Sonia has since bagged multiple roles on popular shows including DiepCity, Gold Diggers, Keeping Score and many more.
