Kuli Roberts Steps Down As African Transformation Movement Ward Councillor Candidate Kuli Roberts shocked the masses when her venture into politics was announced on twitter. The ATM (African Transformation Movement) announced on their twitter account that Kuli was running as a candidate for the municipal ward council of Tshwane.
Kuli has since stepped down as a councillor candidate under the ATM political party due to unforeseen circumstances. The party has released a statement on twitter claiming that she the actress will no longer be part of the running party and the Daily Sun has now revealed why that is.
According to ATM Gauteng provincial secretary Elliot Mabaso, the actress was never an official member of the party therefore she is unable to run for any political position. Apparently, Kuli was blind sided by a group of volunteers that went to her home and recruited her as council candidate because they didn’t have one for their community.
“They persuaded her to stand as council. They pit her name on the list and sent it through to my office and the head office, where it was captured to the IEC. Unfortunately the stop order she signed hadn’t gotten to me an I found out via twitter that she is now a member of the party and she was running for ward councillor” Mabaso said.
Mabaso claims that because Roberts was an activist and a journalist, there is a conflict of interest and he had to make it clear that there is no way that she could run as ward councillor.
Kuli was said to have joined the party as a servant and had signed up to work for the people of South Africa. “Servant Kuli” was then announced as the ATM Councillor Candidate for Ward 65 in Tshwane. A poster for her campaign calling for votes began circulating on twitter and needless to say, people are shook by her career shift.
