He is a highly skilled commander who can recognize and defuse potentially dangerous situations by remaining cool in the face of a hostile environment.
Before returning to Guinea to join the Special Forces Group, an elite military outfit founded by Alpha Condé, Doumbouya served as a French legionnaire. President Alpha Conde had a soft spot for Col Dumbuya and has always described him as a son. Conde promoted him to lead the special forces for ethnic and tribal grounds.
Well, it came as a shock to many since Doumbouya was the one who led the recent coup in Guinea which led to the arrest of Alpha Conde, their president.
Doumbouya after arresting the president said; “dire political-situation of our country, the instrumentalization of the judiciary, the non-respect of democratic principles, the extreme politicization of public administration, as well as poverty and corruption.”
“We are no longer going to entrust politics to one man, we are going to entrust it to the people. We come only for that,” declared Col. Mamady Doumbouya, the special forces head, appearing on state television with Guinea’s national flag draped around his shoulders and members of the military surrounding him. He said it was “the duty of a soldier to save the country,” he added.
He further revealed that Alpha Conde is in safe hands and has seen a doctor after his arrest, adding that his team will end the misfortunes of Guinea.
