Gomora Actress Sana Mchunu Opens up About How Her Acting Dreams Came True Following Her Divorce. Since award winning drama series Gomora took over our screens, we have developed a soft spot for many of the character’s, especially Sana Mchunu who plays the role of the feisty and hilarious Zodwa. It’s hard to think of the time before viewers were introduced to the role which may not have happened if she had not walked away from her marriage.

In a recent interview on Jozi FM the actress shared how thankful she is for leaving a marriage that didn’t serve her anymore. Mchunu empowered women to walk away from a marriage that they felt was no longer working out. The actress shared how she aims to prevent women from experiencing the challenges that she experienced during her marriage.

The mother of seven shared that by the age of 21 she already had five children to take care of however she is very happy that things turned out the way they did.

“I would not want other women to go through what I went through in my marriage, but on the same breathe I am thankful that it ended otherwise I would not be here” she said.

The actress encouraged women to go to school and attain a life of independence where they don’t need a man to help them survive.

“I want to talk about my story to encourage young women to go to school and empower themselves. Today, I am a mother of seven children and at the age of 21, I already had five children I don’t even have matric. ” she continued.

After her marriage ended, Mchunu returned back to school to further her education which meant leaving her children in the care of her father. Her acting breakthrough then came about after an opportunity presented itself to her when her friend missed an audition that was initially meant for her. After landing the role, Sana has never looked back.

One of my friends, who is a singer, had asked me to accompany her to auditions. On our way, she decided to start at Kalawa Jazmee. She then asked me to go to the auditions and stand in the queue for her. Unfortunately, she did not arrive at the auditions as she was stuck at Kalawa. I was then convinced to audition. Fortunately, I got the role. Since that day, I’ve never looked back” she said.

Sana made such an impression on the production that they decided to make her character which was meant to be temporary, a permanent role.

“My character was supposed to be temporal, but I made sure that I excelled. The brief was, Zodwa is an irresponsible and drunkard woman, and her baby is to be taken away.”

Everything happens for a reason right?
