When it comes to societal privilege, it’s often been debated that light skin and/or pretty people always have an upper hand. Although many have voiced their disapproval of the stigma on social media, its a factor that has governed society and we are all aware of it.
Social media influencer and businesswoman Sarah Langa who has been accused of pretty privilege shed some light on the situation in a recent interview with Festive Get-Together in The Life Artois host Unathi. In the 30 second clip that has gone viral on twitter, Langa shares her views about pretty privilege claiming that pretty people shouldn’t shy away from the fact that it does exist in society.
It’s not all fun and games when it comes to pretty privilege as Sarah mentioned that there is a lot of hate that comes with the privilege from society because the privileged ones don’t want to acknowledge that they have the upper hand when it comes to life in general.
“Your role is to uplift people who don’t feel pretty because you are constantly praised” Sarah said.
Since the clip began circulating, tweeps have been divided about Langa’s statement. While some are in agreement with Langa’s statement, others are claiming that they don’t understand what she is trying to say and they also have been on Unathi‘s case for gassing her “senseless” notion up and also allegedly pretending that she understands what Sarah is on about.
