A teenage boy is currently in police custody and this comes after he was charged with drunk driving.
The boy is said to be 19 years old and he was allegedly involved in a horror crash that claimed the lives of four people in Elandslaagte just outside Ladysmith yesterday morning.
This was confirmed by the KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala who stated that following the crash, the police in Elandslaagte opened a case of culpable homicide and drunken driving.
She said;
“A 19-year-old driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of liquor. He will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today.
At 5:30am yesterday morning, a family had been travelling in two separate vehicles on the N11 near Elandslaagte when they were involved in a crash with another vehicle.
Four family members aged between three and 32 were declared dead at the scene while the other four that were traveling in another vehicle sustained critical injuries and were rushed to hospital for medical attention. The other three occupants in another vehicle sustained minor injuries.”
Meanwhile, a registered nurse has pleaded guilty to making a false HIV claim in order to get R1 million insurance payout.
According to a report by the , she falsely claimed she contrated the deadly HIV virus while on duty.
Her name is Shevon Naidoo and she works for a laboratory that services insurance companies, however, she was unable to defend the claim she made in July 2019 claim she made with the Old Mutual Group.
To convince them, she submitted the test results of another HIV-infected person as her own, only for it to backfired.
She was subsequently charged with fraud and upon interrogation, she admitted her wrongdoing and made a Section 112 guilty plea.
