Uyinene’s Mother Opens Up To Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters About Her Daughter’s Legacy! After a loved ones death, the people who are left behind are most affected as they will have to now live a life without their special someone.
Uyinene was a 19 year old UCT student who was brutally murdered after being raped by a man who works at the local post office where she had went to pick up a parcel.
This sparked immediate attention and outrage demanding that the government have take more action against gender-based violence cases.
Former Miss South Africa and Miss Universe 2017 had an emotional chat on Instagram speaking to Uyinene’s mother Noma, about how life has never been the same since the death of her daughter in 2019.
Although the tragic event is a wound that will never quite heel, Noma mentioned that she was grateful for the support she has received from everyone who was involved when Uyinene was still considered a missing case.
She has since started the ‘Uyinine Foundation’ to empower women to stand against gender-based violence as well as to keep the memory of her daughter alive.
“I thought surely something needs to be done. It can’t be that all of this was in vain. I must try find purpose and repurpose in a way so that other parents don’t go through what I went through” she said.
Demi-Leigh couldn’t help but acknowledge Noma for her positive spirit in wanting to help others who have gone through similar experiences as herself.
“Thank you Mama Noma for your courage to fight GBV and for letting your beautiful daughter’s legacy live on through the work of the Uyinene Foundation,” she wrote.
