Zinhle Worried About Kairo’s Future Following Colourism Debate: Twitter Drags Her! Pearl Thusi sparked a huge debate that is long overdue on social media about colourism.
DJ Zinhle being Pearl’s BFF, she showed her support on twitter asking what Pearl can do to make people feel okay. But it seems DJ Zinhle’s concern is deeper than just being Pearl’s friend. Zinhle has a mixed daughter, Kairo with boyfriend rapper AKA who is colored. It seems the mom of one is concerned about how her daughter will be treated considering she is already showing interest in showbiz at the age of three.
“So what are we saying here guys? What can my light skinned friend do to make this right? Not go after her dreams? Also, did she choose to look the way she does? Already worried my my Kairo,” Zinhle tweeted.
Black twitter didn’t think it was wise of Zinhle to drag her young daughter into a debate that had turned nasty and also how she as the mother hasn’t figured out how she will teach her daughter about colourism in society.
Kairo will have some privileges because of colorism. As a writer/speaker I experience it. But I choose, Pearl chooses & Kairo can choose to be conscious in navigation. Do you think Obama would have become President if he were Darkskinned? It’s global. https://t.co/ecb0S9vxnM

So mom is worried that Kairo is also gonna miss out on slave characters? ?

On top of carrying the entire entertainment industry, Kairo must deal with her name being used in vain to defend hateful best friends. Yoh ha.a

Lastly, Zinhle I am fascinated by your concern for Kairo… In a world that greatly favours light skinned & mixed race women, are you not going to teach her to acknowledge her own privilege & how she is likely to benefit at the expense of those who don’t look like her?

Don’t worry about Kairo. She will inherit privilege and enjoy it. She already is.. https://t.co/3t17MpddBp

With a mother like you, I’m also worried about Kairo. Keep kids out of grown debates. This conversation has become so heated and charged and you thought throwing your child into it was a good idea? You really want your little girl to be a topic of Twitter? Wow. https://t.co/8FDnIY6wZu
