Ayanda Borotho On Walking Away From Big Brands Who ‘Tolerated’ Her! In an industry where celebs run to book the next big gig, it’s rare to see an artist who does not compromise themselves for money and fame.

Isibaya actress Ayanda Boroto recently took to Instagram sharing how she is learning to ask herself if she’s being tolerated or tolerating when she gets uncomfortable in a setting.

“I’m teaching myself to walk away from any setting where I feel tolerated. In April this year I “fired” a client. I walked away from a big name brand client because I felt tolerated. And I would do it 1000 times over. No amount of money is worth diminishing my worth or peace. I know who I am. Writing that letter to terminate my services was power to me. When you feel tolerated….walk. Infact….RUN,” she wrote.

“The powerful tolerate, the powerless wait to be tolerated.” When Jane Elliot said this it hit home for me. Hit home in the context of my own journey of Unbecoming to Become…the journey of self discovery and mastery gives birth to power you didn’t know you had. It discards the notion that “umuntu ungumuntu ngabantu” and corrects it to “umuntu uqale abe umuntu ngaye bese eba umuntu ngabantu” (ok….this needs a session to unpack??‍♂️??). Simply put, even abantu can’t make you what you believe you are not. Flip the coin. Even if you are not it, if you believe it, abantu can make you what you are not because YOU believe you are it… ( you might have to read that a few times to make sense. These are my 1am thoughts so….??). In even simpler terms, power begins with knowing who you are. When you don’t, you surrender your power and you become susceptible to being “tolerated.” And often it may feel like you have NO choice in the matter (when you actually do. We always have a choice). Being tolerated manifests as being (but not limited to) in a toxic relationship but staying because you don’t think you are worthy of better, surrounding yourself with people/friends who make you feel small but give the illusion that you fit in, not being free to be who you are etc. However when you know who you are, you are rooted in your power and you have the freedom (or choice) to choose what you tolerate and what you don’t. When I get uncomfortable in a setting I’ve learnt to ask myself the question “am I being tolerated or am I tolerating?” I’m teaching myself to walk away from any setting where I feel tolerated. In April this year I “fired” a client. I walked away from a big name brand client because I felt tolerated. And I would do it 1000 times over. No amount of money is worth diminishing my worth or peace. I know who I am. Writing that letter to terminate my services was power to me. When you feel tolerated….walk.? Infact….RUN???
