A new test found in the Geekbench database shows that the Ryzen 5 6600H, AMD’s new mid-range processor for notebooks, should show a huge evolution compared to its predecessor, the Ryzen 5 5600H, offering up to 47% higher performance. The solution also promises to be very competitive against rivals Intel Alder Lake-H, and may be a strong candidate for the best cost-benefit.
Ryzen 5 6600H shows 5600X performance in test
A member of the Ryzen 6000H “Rembrandt” family, the Ryzen 5 6600H is equipped with 6 cores and 12 threads based on the new Zen 3+ microarchitecture, a turbocharged version of the original Zen 3 with 6 nm fabrication, running at up to 4.5 GHz. The CPU offers 16 MB of L3 cache, has a base consumption set at 45 W and the highlight is the new integrated Radeon 660M GPU.
The graphics chip is based on the RDNA 2 microarchitecture, the same present in the Radeon RX 6000 cards and in the new generation consoles, and has 6 Compute Units (CUs), 384 cores with clocks of up to 1,900MHz and 6 Ray Accelerators, thus bringing support to Ray Tracing. In tests, the focus is on the CPU, which showed respectable results, with 1,472 points for single-core and 8,054 points for multi-core.

The numbers show a huge improvement over the Ryzen 5 5600H, which averages 1,244 points in single-core and 5,497 points in multi-core — the new generation chip is 18% higher when using a single core, and an impressive 47% more powerful with all cores. The leap is expressive enough that the Ryzen 5 6600H is practically equivalent to a Ryzen 5 5600X, its mid-range desktop sibling.
The solution scores 1,615 points in single-core and 8,146 points in multi-core, surpassing the 6600H by only 10% and 1%, respectively. Even compared to Intel’s equivalent for the category, the new Core i5 12500H, the representative of the Rembrandt family still impresses.
Chip can be cost-effective champion
The launch also shows good results when compared to leaked tests of the Core i5 12500H, an intermediate chip from the Alder Lake-H family. The Intel processor stands out for its hybrid architecture, with 12 cores and 16 threads, with 4 P-Cores equipped with Hyper-Threading at 4.5 GHz and 8 E-Cores running at 3.3 GHz, supported by 18 MB of cache.
The blue team solution scores an average of 1,519 points in single-core and 10,332 points in multi-core, being 5% and 22% faster than the Ryzen 5 6600H, respectively. Although it seems like a lot, the margin is significantly smaller than that seen in the leaked test comparisons between the Ryzen 9 6900HX and the Core i9 12900H, indicating that the competition in the mid-range segment should be fiercer.
Added to this are some of the advantages that the AMD platform should present, such as lower energy consumption, lower prices and the most powerful integrated GPU. The first notebooks equipped with the new chips from AMD and Intel are expected to debut in early February, and more complete reviews and comparisons should be released in the coming days.
