“Dancing” towers. New project aims to create a minimum of shadow in a German city –

Duett Düsseldorf are the new “dancing” towers of the German city of Düsseldorf — a project that aims to create a cultural meeting space and, at the same time, reduce the shadow normally created by this type of construction.

The “dancing” towers are Düsseldorf’s new “cultural epicenter” and have been designed in a “V” shape to prevent too much shade in the area where they will be built.

The construction of the pair of buildings is planned for the city center, over an opera house — which already exists and, if the project goes ahead, will be demolished and rebuilt again for support the two towers.

The Duett Düsseldorfs will make the connection between a nearby park, the river Rhein and a busy street, which is why the project was designed so as not to cause too much shade, writes the New Atlas.

According to the company responsible for the project, Snøhetta, the building is “an unmistakable V-shaped silhouette that reaches up to the sky”.

“O set of towers changes its silhouette from each new perspective, creating an ever-changing expression reminiscent of a dancing duet. The towers are strategically designed to reduce the shadow of the surrounding areas of the park and neighborhood”, reveals the company.

Furthermore, the buildings were designed to accommodate a hotel, residential areas and office spaces. So, the focus is “creating clear divisions between roles”, while seeking protection against changes in weather conditions and a uniform appearance of the building.

“This is possible through a layered glass facade with different scales and transparency”, continue those responsible for the project.

The terrace area will include green spaces and offer views over the city. The new opera house will be located inside the building that will support the towers and will have glazed facades and an appealing wooden interior.

It is not yet known, however, when the construction of the Duett Düsseldorf, which will be a cultural meeting space and public attraction.
