Google may require dynamic theme support on Android 12-based systems –

Support for dynamic themes may become a mandatory requirement for qualification of developers in the use of Google Mobile Services (GMS), which allows the creation of operating systems based on Android. Phone manufacturers who want to use their modified versions will need to support Monet or a similar framework capable of reproducing colors.

This need would be an attempt by Google to force program and game creators to make their applications integrated with the new look. Today, dynamic theme support is not required, but whoever offers it seems to stand out from the crowd.

Thus, system manufacturers — such as One UI (Samsung), ColorOS (Oppo) and MIUI (Xiaomi) — would necessarily need to deliver a compatible solution as a way to keep various Google and third-party apps working. It is true that many already offer such support, but there are some software that have not joined the Material You trend.

Google itself has already set an example by starting to transfer this functionality to the chromebooks operating system, Chrome OS. It’s not fully functional yet, but the initial tests already show changes in windows and changed fonts.

Dynamic Theme, Material You and Android 12

The dynamic theme is one of the great new features of Android 12 and has emerged as an exclusive feature of the Pixel line phones. The feature brings a more consistent and unique look by applying wallpaper colors to system-wide menus, checkboxes, and buttons.

The Monet framework was created by Google to feed the dynamic color system by extracting five shades related to the dominant color of your wallpaper. From there, the algorithm applies the shades throughout the user interface and in the apps that support it. Thus, each phone should have a unique yet unified look across the operating system.

It is not known whether this will come to fruition, but, according to a source from the Android Authority website, an announcement is expected on March 14, 2022. If this is true, developers are likely to have little more than a month to run with their solutions or they may run out of support from Google to work on their modifications.
