European Parliament gives 1st endorsement for covid-19 ‘health passport’ –

The European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties (Libe) approved on Wednesday (26) the text that creates the so-called “digital certificates of the covid-19” of the European Union, also called “green pass” or “health passport”.

The document was approved with 52 votes in favor, 23 against and three abstentions and now goes to the plenary for analysis, in a text that should be analyzed next month.

“The first release by the European Parliament to the ‘green pass’ is an important signal, a decisive step towards the return of normality. The next challenge will, in fact, be to guarantee and facilitate the free movement, in complete safety, of people. among the countries of the European Union, “said Italy’s Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomies, Mariastella Gelmini.

The policy recalled that his country will also have its own “green pass” and that it “was the precursor to this strategy focused on intelligent and covid-free mobility”.

Today’s vote gave rise to an agreement signed between the European institutions on the last 20th and should go through, without many problems, by all the organs of the bloc.

The idea of the document is to allow travel between countries of people vaccinated against Covid-19, who have already contracted the disease and / or who have a negative test for the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus. The application will be activated through WR Code.

The expectation is that the “certificate” will come into force in June, just in time for summer holidays on the European continent. It is already in the testing phase in 18 European Union countries and Iceland since May 10.
