Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin Announces 6x More Performance Than Predecessor –

This week, Nvidia is hosting the GPU Technology Conference (GTC) 2021, one of the brand’s main events of the year, where news focused on servers, cloud computing, autonomous driving and more are announced. This year, one of the company’s standout announcements is the expansion of the use of the Orin chip in more areas of computing.

Originally launched in 2019, the solution was dedicated to autonomous driving, and is now also reaching advanced AI processing, sensory computing and use in medicine and other areas with the launch of the AGX Orin and Jetson AGX Orin development kits.

Nvidia AGX Orin is new robotics solution

The Nvidia AGX Orin is Nvidia’s newest development kit with a focus on automation and robotics, designed as a detection computing instrument. The solution will be aimed at product manufacturing, medicine, economics and other industries, which increasingly demand faster processing and increase the application of Artificial Intelligence.

In addition to having graphics cards up to the RTX A6000 and high-speed connectivity provided by the ConnectX-7 kit, the AGX Orin brings, as the name suggests, the SoC Nvidia Orin — manufactured by Samsung in 8 nm, the system brings 17 billion of transistors and encompasses 12 automation-focused ARM Cortex-A78AE cores, plus an Ampere GPU with 2,048 CUDA cores and 64 Tensor Cores, and 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM, on a 256-bit interface with a bandwidth of 204.8 GB/s.

AGX Orin is already confirmed to power Clara Holoscan, a computing platform for the healthcare industry that intends to deliver high performance for applications that depend on low-latency streaming, such as endoscopy exams, robotic surgeries and other more complex procedures with image diagnosis .

Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin Promises Server Performance on Compact PC

Also new is the Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin, focused on delivering the processing power of SoC Orin in a super compact package. According to Nvidia, the suite is compatible with the ecosystem of the Jetson AGX Xavier, an automation solution from the previous generation, using the same format and interface, but offering 6 times the performance, with 200 TOPs (Trillion Operations Per Second) — power of “Server equivalent in a kit that fits in the palm of your hand” processing.

The Jetson AGX Orin supports Nvidia’s core AI processing software features, including the CUDA-X for accelerated computing, the JetPack for cloud computing workflows, and the Nvidia NGC and Nvidia TAO toolkit suite with models of Pre-trained AI and possibility of fine tuning for custom datasets.

The company also confirmed the application of SoC Orin in other processing modules for automation, such as DRIVE Orin, for autonomous driving. All modules and development kits based on AGX Orin will be available in Q1 2022, and interested developers can register for updates via this link.
