Nvidia RTX 2050 would be answer to entry-level Intel Arc Alchemist GPU –

The unexpected launch of the RTX 2050 and entry-level MX570 and MX550 would be Nvidia’s answer to Intel’s advances in the video gamer card market with the Arc family. At least that’s what the leaker indicates. Moore’s Law is Dead, which brought more details of the simpler Arc Alchemist GPU, as well as of the recently announced solutions from Nvidia, direct competitors in the entry segment.

128 EUs Intel Arc targets “surgically” on GTX 1650

Moore’s Law is Dead indicates that the 128 Execution Units (EUs) Arc Alchemist has been “surgically” primed to attack the entry-level, low-power gamer segment, specifically targeting the GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q. Nvidia’s solution, based on the TU117 chip, debuted first on PCs and was heavily criticized for its subpar performance, coupled with a very high price compared to competitors.

Its arrival to notebooks, however, had a reverse effect — the GTX 1650 family proved to be highly efficient and cost-effective for users looking for more entry-level notebooks. Intel Arc with DG2-128 chip wants to conquer this market with two configurations: one with 128 EUs with 1,024 cores and consumption between 35 W and 50 W, and another with 96 EUs with 768 cores and consumption of 35 W, ranges basically identical to the of the current entry solution of the green team.

There are still no concrete details on the performance of the DG-128, but Moore’s Law is Dead suggests that the card will wreck the GTX 1650 in performance per Watt, a point supported by a recent leak of an Arc GPU in the game Ashes of the Singularity, which was showing promising results. The leaker also indicates that the existence of this chip and its competitive performance would have been the reason behind the unexpected releases of the RTX 2050, MX 570 and MX 550.

Nvidia prepares to compete with the RTX 2050

The leaker points to multiple factors that indicate that the announcement of the new GeForce was the result of a scenario of concern on the part of Nvidia. The clearest of them is the fact that even the giant’s partner manufacturers would have been surprised by the news, although it is also possible to notice this movement when observing the configurations of the new chips.

Many specialist vehicles questioned not only the name of the RTX 2050, but also the level of performance that the solution would offer. Moore’s Law is Dead suggests that the novelty came to replace the position occupied by the GTX 1650 Max-Q, being a full-bodied option for entry-level notebooks, and in that way, the dubious nomenclature would actually be an ingenious scheme.

The RTX 2050 features the same GA107 chip as the RTX 3050, but suffering marked reductions in memory and consumption, curiously stipulated in the same range of 30 W to 45 W as Intel’s DG2-128, and as a consequence, performance will be noticeably lower. Nvidia doesn’t want to associate this range of performance with the RTX 3000 family and has therefore positioned the release as a member of the RTX 2000 lineup.

The launch thus seems to be a happy medium between the powerful RTX 3000 and the MX ultrabook lineup, also updated to combat the most basic variants of the DG2. The new GeForce RTX 2050, MX570 and MX550 are slated to debut in Q2 2022 between March and June, while Intel’s debut with the Arc family is confirmed for Q1 2022 between January and March.
